CLARE BOWEN

Artist's CV

I’m a full-time oil painter and focus mainly on plein air and still life subjects and like to work from life to capture the immediacy and atmosphere of my subjects. Cornish harbours are a central source of inspiration, including historic and working fishing boats, early morning fog, sunrises and beautiful evening light are subjects I find especially compelling.

My current studio is in my Newlyn home, but we are now converting an old net-loft and garage on our property into a dedicated studio space, ideal for my practise and maritime inspirations.

I’ve exhibited with several societies in London: Chelsea, New English Art Society, Royal Institute of Oil Painters; and The Royal Society of Marine Artists, where I won the Classic Boat Award in 2023. My exhibition experience includes two solo shows in Chelsea, London, along with numerous joint exhibitions with artists and local societies over the years. I also have representation with local galleries in Newlyn called: Thomas Henry Gallery & in Portscatho: The Harbour Gallery.
