To Cornwall with love…
December 6th – 12th
Is an exhibition of paintings that acts as a
visual love letter from and to Cornwall.
I recognise that many of us have a deep
connection, and we collectively enjoy and
share our love, for Cornwall- its land, coast
and the warmth of its people. The memories
and stories shared enable us to feel that we
belong and we carry and hold other’s
memories too.
Often, a painting can hold a moment- an
emotion, a feeling of a day, the weather, the
light, the feeling of the sea, the smell of the
salt, the kindness of our valley gardens and
daily walks past those trees we know.
I paint on site and then in reflection back in
my studio in Falmouth and my hope that
some of the energy and feeling of these
moments are captured in paint –where we
are transported back to our ‘place’ (that
coast, field or garden) and to the emotion of
being there.
I aim to acknowledge the comfort of places
one knows-the reverie of being completely
immersed in the Cornish landscape.
My work therefor embodies a deeply rooted
connection with ‘place’-the spirit of place-and
explores the connectivity of collective
memory through sharing art with others that
relate to these places too.
The viewer is invited to walk with me around
our coast, and the land that skirts the sea.
These places, captured in paint, are just a
snap shot in time, as each day brings new
experiences, sensation and feelings and the
potential for new memories, more connection
and understanding of the depth of connection
we have. ‘ Cornwall with love’, invites us to
cherish this connection and look after it. We
are custodians of Cornwall and the memories
it gives us and I celebrate this through paint.
I hope you enjoy. Love, Victoria
