We are committed to making our gallery as welcoming and accessible as possible for all visitors.

Our gallery is located within a historic former Anglican church building in the cobbled old town area of St Ives. While the character of the building is an important part of its heritage, it does present some accessibility limitations.

Access to the Galleries

The main entrance to the Mariners Gallery is reached by five stone steps. Unfortunately, there is currently no step-free access or lift available.

If you have mobility requirements and would like to discuss your visit before travelling, please contact us. We will do our best to assist and advise on the options available.

The Crypt Gallery is accessible via one very shallow stone step and has level access throughout. Visitors can move around this exhibition space without encountering any internal access barriers.

Inside the Gallery

Once inside the Mariners Gallery, the exhibition space is on two levels. The Society utilizes the original pew areas which form a flat and easily navigational area and the former apse which is a smaller raised area reached by climbing three stairs. Seating is available on request.

Assistance, emotional support and other dogs are welcome throughout the gallery. They should be kept on a short lead at all times.

Parking at the Gallery

The Society does not have dedicated parking available for visitors. The nearest public car park is the Sloop Car Park which can be found next to the Crypt Gallery entrance. This is a small short stay car park and can become very busy in the peak summer months. There are disabled spaces available.

The Island Car Park is a larger amenity and is approximately a 5 minute walk from the gallery. If you plan to visit in the busy months then the large car park at the top of town – Trenwith Car Park – usually has space. This area is approximately a 30 minute walk from the gallery and there are regular buses throughout the day which shuttle visitors from the Trenwith Car Park into the center of town and back again.

Facilities

There are no toilet facilities at the Mariners Gallery or the Crypt Gallery. The nearest public toilets can be located in the Sloop Car Park. These are open seasonally from dawn to dusk and cost 40p to use (card only). The disabled toilet is free to use and can be accessed with a Radar Key.
